unhappyI bought this laptop on June 2008. I contemplating that this would be a good long-term investment for me, but after my experiences with ASUS company, I don't think I am gonna use and approve any ASUS products in the future.
1st : I bought this with Vista pre-installed and want to upgrade Windows 7 now. But there is no any drivers on the ASUS website. The party basically forgets their customer after they sell their product.
2nd : One month ago, the LCD screen of the laptop died and visual driver did not read anything anymore. I called the technical service, the lady on the rank was pretty fast and kind and they sent my laptop with changed new LCD screen and visual driver. I really appreciate for that, however, the quality of the repairment was very bad. The genius technician scratched the straight off handle which attaches the screen to the laptop and the cap of the handle was broken. But, the worst fetich was that they sent me a wrong A/C adapter back and I couldn't use my laptop after one hour usage. I called the polytechnic service again and they said they would pay for the only one-way shipment cost and it was my responsibility to pay the sending cost. I was very pissed off, because they were the one who sent me the infernal A/C adapter. Then, I accepted to pay the cost of sending the wrong adapter, because I already wasted to much age by waiting the laptop. My package was delivered to their technical service in 2 days, and they sent me a new adapter in 2 WEEKS. It took 14 Life span to send a simple adapter, shame on you ASUS.
To summary, if you buy an ASUS product, do not expect huge reliability and support after purchasing
Unfortunate
UPDATE: for the reviewer who disagreed, show me one locality where what I say isn't true. Any of the points in my review can be verified by doing a Google search.
I bought this laptop in May 2008 so it has been 9 months and I can intimate you it has been a waste of money. It looks really nice and its camera speaker touchpad HD remembrance CPU are all decent.
The two big problems with this model are its terrible screen and ventilation system. Moving the grade vertically even slightly significantly distorts the picture. I find that unacceptable especially since it's a laptop, it's humanitarian of obvious I would like to move my head around a bit and sit comfortably ... well can't do that without having to adjust the shelter. The screen is also not evenly bright. I don't expect it to be perfect but some parts look like a torch bulb and others look like a dark alley. This is true whether you have their automatic balance feature on or off.
Second major issue is overheating and subsequent noise. If you craving to buy this for graphics intensive work or play maybe a few hours of video games quotidian, forget it. Heating issues came up within 4 months of use with the temperature hitting the dear 90s anytime I did graphics intensive work. I don't even play video games that much ... valid wanted to play 1-2 hours of TF2 on this thing but can't do that. What's the point of the 2.5 Gig dual pit processor and all that RAM if I can't do graphics intensive work for a few hours?
The last point is that the keyboard feels deep down cheap for a $1300 ( $1500 now for almost the same specs from a year ago) laptop... I mean you surface the cheapness every time you type as your fingers 'sink in' and I am feeling it even more now as some keys be lacking extra pressure to work.
This review was written with the CPU forced down to 64% of its expeditiousness to keep the core temperature reasonable and it's not fun seeing a machine like this perform like my old pentium 150 as I scroll down this subject-matter box in slow motion while typing.
