Capable lightweight computer
I have an Acer 10-inch netbook (which I have been really happy with) and wanted to upgrade to a larger display, keypad and a bit more capability. The ceremony on this little machine is fantastic, it's lightweight and the keypad is very usable. It operates soundlessly, doesn't get too hot, and provides great run time for a long session of surfing, youtube and TV viewing, and facebook and email interchange. It also works fairly well for typical word processing and spreadsheet use. If you compare the X340 to the presentation of a 15-inch, dual core laptop you may be disappointed. However, if you want a very lightweight, lightweight machine for general home use and personal travel, this one hits the target.

Categorically Unusable
Let me introduce this by saying that I build out an average of 25 server, workstation, laptop, and memorial build outs during a week at my job. I have my A+, MCSE, and RHCT. I'm not new at this.
This MSI xslim x320 should never have been released to the business. It belongs in beta testing or doing useful work like holding down papers to keep them from blowing in a different place.
First of all I went into this knowing the netbook specs it had and am okay with that. My need is to have a lightweight transportable system that can get onto the internet, word process, read browser based email, and interact with my partiality websites. Basically I wanted my 7" eeepc but more gentle on my eyes and friendlier to my fat fingers.
When I saw this pose factor I started salivating and had plans for it. It is the perfect size. But that's where the love matter ends.
I will not use Vista and no one should be expected to use Vista so that needed to be changed immediately. I tried Windows 7 but it was so unbearably unresponsive and leisurely that it was impossible to use. Plus it had to be rebooted around every 5 minutes from stalling. And forget about trying to use any upshot like MS Office.
I don't like macs and wanted this to be my linux macbook anyways. So I went through a whole crowd of Linux OS's and had a range of the same problems: it would freeze frequently, it needed to be rebooted often, lan wouldn't business (on some distros), wan wouldn't work (on some distros), and a general lag when it came to anything. I tried Fedora LXDE, Fedora XFCE, JoliCloud, Moblin, Archos, Ubuntu NBR, Loads, Slax, EEEBuntu, Easy Peasy, Puppy, Knoppix and for fun I tried to exaggerate it with Ubuntu openArtist and Ubuntu Studio. Sometimes one network service wouldn't profession, sometimes another wouldn't work. It was a crap shoot but I was guaranteed to have to reboot constantly no upset the distro. The common denominator here is the hardware.
Ubuntu NBR worked the best so I was firm to make that work even if it meant I had to be tethered to a modem. Since the LAN driver didn't hunger to work, I had to use USB. However, trying to watch a video on youtube or hulu or any streaming place is so choppy that this function is out of the question. Forget about trying to fullscreen anything. Trying to off up a video on VLC is choppy but watchable until you try to go to full screen. GoogleDocs works great but anything that is dependent on the local resources of this gadget (like OpenOffice or AbiWord) will fail. You can use these programs if you don't mind waiting for the program to pinch up with you (from just entering text) and rebooting every 5-15 minutes.
Multitasking is out of the harbour since it takes around 10 seconds to switch menus and just under a minute to frank any application. That means you cannot run applications side by side. Which got me to thinking, if I cannot take advantage of this screen space for multiple applications or full wall off video viewing, what is the point of having this machine at all?
I wanted to test this against my first gen pre-atom 7" eeepc. The two year old eee blew it out of the not make sense. I had a playlist going and had answered an email by the time the x320 came up. Both were continual Ubuntu NBR. Now I understand that the eee has less graphical work to do but that is a reason not an excuse. The slim x320 is grossly mis-speced. It fails to satisfactorily work the most basic tasks regardless of the application or OS. The graphics insufficiency bottlenecks the whole task so that it is a miserable experience.
Save your money and by a 10" acer, asus, dell, or hp.

Slim & Slick!
I darling this laptop. I've had it for a month now, and have no complaints. It's perfect for travel, yet the screen size is suprisingly noble since it's a widescreen. The keyboard is not too small and it's processing is decent. I watch videos and often multitask with emails with no disturbed. Sound is great. I've had a few people ask if it was a macbook air. ::shrug::
I researched for hours for a new laptop, with my pre-eminence ranking being 1) super light 2) not a tiny screen 3) kind processing 4) pretty. This laptop met all 4 requirements.

Save that portability and power
Is it a wonderful machine? No. But it does a better job of multitasking and processing that netbooks and in actuality weighs slightly less. Plus you don't have to sacrifice the full-size screen and keyboard to get the imperceptible weight.
I agree with the other reviews that the keyboard is kind of springy...however, I got the impression from those reviews that the whole laptop might be rickety and flexible, and that's just not the case. It's plenty rigid, it's just the effect of springy keys. You'll in need of to work on a solid surface or with your legs up to help stabilize.
My only complaint is the gleaming screen: sure, it's pretty to look at, but it produces some pretty nasty ostentation and reflection. I much prefer a matte screen. But that a minor annoyance, and a bodily one at that.
Word of warning for anyone taking up the upgrade offer from Vista to Win7: Microsoft will only send the upgrade to you in DVD deportment, so you'll have to find a way to make a .iso image of the disk on another computer and then get an .iso reader to run it on your laptop.

Overadvertised for what it actually is
I use this cabal mainly for study purposes and my main expectation from MSI X-320 is to perform intelligible operations: e-mail, browse internet, and type my essays for University. The power and size are extremely helpful as I travel often. However, I would not rely on this machine for more demanding operations, or even watching films (video carte de visite is weak). Other major pros and cons are listed below (bear in mind this is my unfriendly experience and reflects my expectations; other users may have different values and expectations).
Pros:
- Very insignificant for a computer this size
- Very light
- Did I say it was light???
Cons are minor, but good to know:
- Tolerably slow (but only if you are used to faster computers)
- Wi-fi signal is fairly weak (the robustness of the wi-fi signal on this laptop continuously goes up and down reaching 4/5 bars climax, while my other laptop [Sony VGN-NW] is stable 5/5 signal strength)
- Keyboard not tremendously comfortable (again, only in comparison with Sony VGN-NW)
- Touch pad buttons sound too "clicky" when you compress (may not be convenient in public libraries)
Although this machine is not as great as expected (the impression full-grown due to advertisement and other users' comments) I paid less $400 for this machine and so far I am content with what I got for this sacrifice. However, I would have regretted had I paid more than $500.
Remember what you expect.
