Before Sony Purchaser - Good Quality Machines
This is the 2nd Sony Vaio stamp laptop I've owned. Overall, I feel quite comfortable in my purchase. Many others have reported an outcome with the fan on this laptop. Although I have to agree that the fan does make some noises, I don't experience unreasonable book of the fan or other operational issues. Since it is a laptop, and requires ventilation, I also use an external cooling pad while the laptop is on for several hours at a stretch and have never experienced over-heating or unwarranted shut downs. Anyone who uses a laptop for open periods of time should look into purchasing one (they're relatively cheap, ranging about $10 to $30) and budget the laptop to breathe, especially when it's placed on soft surfaces like tackle, pillows, or your lap. Also, Sony has agreed to repair the fan relating to this model. Information for this can be found here: [...]. As with many technological devices, they all have their issues. I bear Sony products are very well made and they're support service programs are quite on top of any issues that arise. What's more, they're customer service is very helpful as well. I highly recommend.

Frustration!!!!
I have a red Sony Vaio VGN-CS320J; Worthwhile color, nice screen. After 2 months it started a loud noise from the fan, now is overheating and shutting down. Naff. Sometimes it holds for an hour, sometimes for 10 minutes. I am terribly disappointed with this Sony product and do not counsel to anyone.

Sony Vaio is grotesque
I've owned Sony Vaio (both desktop and laptop (x2). For years I bought into the hype that Sony produced safe products. Shame on me for blindly accepting Sony name brand products. They are awful. I am thick headed, in that I continued to give Sony the gain of the doubt for years. The desktop computer hard disc failed, 48 hours before I shipped out to the centre east for a deployment. Hours on the telephone with tech support resulted in the desideratum to ship the entire computer to Sony for repair. This was the single computer in the home at that time, relied on for kith and kin communication by email while I was deployed. Absolutely zero attention to this issue by Sony.
I purchased a laptop before the escritoire top failure. The first Vaio laptop was actually pretty goo - although very heavy to lug around. It is still working - having been handed down to stretched out family.
The second laptop ran hot right out of the box - the mother board failed in less than a week, requiring in lenient repair by Sony support. This took a week. The computer continued to run unusually hot; bought a cooling pad to succour with air flow. When Windows 7 was released, I attempted to upgrade. Upgrade was not possible, due to unavailable drivers for the video credit card. Sony pointed to the video card maker, the card maker pointed back at Sony - neither corporation with any interest in solving the issue. The consumer loses. In retrospect, this was a good thing, as the genesis board failed again at slightly less than 3 yrs of use.
I purchased a Toshiba laptop as replacement. Out of the box, powered up - it in a second found my home network, connected to the wireless printer, does not run hot, and has better speakers and produces video much more indisputably than any of the Sony computers.
Sony equipment is junk. Don't waste your money on anything Sony.

very bad contact
I inveterately would not bother to spend time on writing a review, if I was not annoyed so badly.
I purchased a VGN-CS320J for my partner in June of 2009. After about 6 months a fan started making loud noise. The fan remains unstated for 10 seconds and starts making noise for 10 seconds or so after that. This stillness-noise-silence-noise pattern keeps going till I put together my laptop off. After some googling, I realized it's a quite common problem to the CS product limit.
I am trying hard to calm it down and will update if I find a solution.
Don't buy VGN CS-320 (maybe other VGN CS models as well)!

The worst!
Bought the laptop 8-2009. From the sally the loud fan was distracting. Constant dropped connections via the Wi-fi was frustrating. Battery soul is less than two hours. The hard-drive failed yesterday-- fortunately covered under-pledge. 2 cheap Acer laptops and an HP laptop in our home-- without any issues. Rightful bought an HP-- who needs this?

hunk of junk
I bought this laptop 6 or 7 months ago and I would say this is not even a computer, it's a fragment of junk. It's just fancy and color from the outside and nothing in the inside. It crashes all the era,and when I type I don't see what I type on the screen (I don't know what technicians call this), and the fan makes the sound of a car apparatus when I called the company they said that's a 'KNOWN ISSUE' with the CS models, I'm like if it's a known big problem it shouldn't be on the market!!!
My sister has a sony vaio and my brother has one too and we are all complaining about them.
I'm sorry sony but you're better off selling cameras and TVs not laptops.

SONY VAIO=P.O.S.
i promised myself not to buy sony after the first laptop i bought 3 years back had a gruesome battery life, was slow, acceptd no extra memory etc.
going for the extremely RAM i went for the Vaio again late in 09 and once again, the battery sucks, i believe the supplier, TechnoIntelligence which gave me somewhat good customer service, did not supply the backup discs. i will add that the non-sony box gave the sensation i was being sent a clone or a refurbished item which they deny but who knows....) and ultimately it broke down miserably and which took a computer technitian over 24 hours of intense labor to get continuous again with 7 this time as it would not take Vista. Now its working fine but the controls for the bar are no longer working....
in any occasion, i paid too much for this HEAVY laptop with basically no battery power. Got me twice Sony. Take to this last time....
Lenovo here i come.

Do not buy Sony Vaio!
My pad doesn't work after one month of use! I am trying to fix it up with no success.
I've already sent it for repair. They said that the education exceptional part has spilt residue on it. I've never spilt anything on my notebook!!! The only explanation for that is the notebook already came with the shortfall! And it seems that I will not have my notebook fixed under warranty!
I'm very disappointed. It's an expensive item, and I'm not getting the choice support.
I have HP notebook and I've never had any problem with it!

sony serves you unhesitatingly
First off, don't buy it because its pulchritudinous. Yes I have it in pink but that was not the determining factor; I just love that I have the option. What the other reviewer is saying about the keyboard I don't get because yeah the keys ARE spaced together but its a ordinary laptop keyboard but its comfortable to type on. The best part is all that gunk and funk don't get stuck in between the keys but they aren't so guarded together.
Its fast, and has a lot of space although its still smart to back up your stuff so you don't get screwed in case something does transpire. The sound quality is great; I do voice over IP and there was no issue. Also, when I was working with the Blu-ray and other things it is unforgivable;the graphics and picture quality are amazing and the screen is just the right take the measure of. I watch Blu-ray's, DVS's and also download from Netflix to this computer and its perfect! The touch sensor AV control is a precarious touch.
For photos, I love that it has all the slots not just one. Especially because no one is getting pictures from me if I have to take that mark-up step of hooking a camera up to the computer to do it.
Out of the box the battery setting comes out OPTIMIZED I counsel the Balanced setting or you be constantly recharging your battery. My only beef is windows vista which takes some hour getting used to but is an easy transition. Also, word of warning scrap the Windows OneCare its crap and they are doing to a different place with it because it performs so poorly yet Microsoft still allows people to purchase it. Save your wherewithal for Norton instead.
Lastly,I've had this computer for over two months now and not a problem. This is my second Vaio the first which is over five years old and with my dynamic duty husband aboard a US Navy submarine. And trust me he is not gentle with anything. These are NOT crap-made computers and last a agreeable long time when you take care of them right. (p.s. I also buy a sqauretrade warranty to be on the safe side too). Buy it you won't deprecate it.

DON'T BUY THIS COMPUTER
I don't have the just the same from time to time to tell you all the things I've experienced with Sony , , , and this notebook. It would take me half a day. I ordered it in a little while from Sony. I received a small screen and the keys are so close together I can't type on it well at all. Two things I told the shop-girl was that I wanted a regular sized keyboard and the best sound card. I didn't get either one. In details the volume is so slow, you can barely hear it. That's a good reason not to buy one unless you prove it up to your ear to hear it
I had to wait two weeks to receive it and when I got it, I didn't open right to another place. They said that since it was a few days after the return date, they would do nothing. They finally set up a repairman to come out because it was doing so many things, like the cover will just roll so that you can't read it. it wouldn't defrag. It would go on all night and when I'd go back to it the next morning. Still sustained, trying to defrag, It was , , , I could go on and on with the problems I've had. It still has multiple issues with it. They told me they would send a repairman out to block it out and that I would get a call within 72 hours. I waited for the call, never came. I called them back and they said it had been cancelled. Couldn't give me a work out, the rep said he didn't know. They could have at least called me and told me so I didn't hang around the prostitution for three days. I hate it.
The last laptop I had was an HP, I never called their support one times in the three years I had it.
If you homelessness a computer you can sit down, surf the net and enjoy your experience, do not buy this one!
The only good thing is that it is pretty, but it's not worth it. I wanted more than that impartial pretty.
