Fancy I had seen these reviews earlier since I purchased a 14-inch VAIO VPC-CW21/L model on Amazon in at daybreak May. Beautiful looking, and worked fine for about a month, before starting with "No Operating System Found" messages. Re-boots initially helped, but when all is said not. Sony sent field service to replace hard drive (500 GB). Problems reoccurred within time, with next step re-formatting new drive. This did not help either. Now I see they evidently have known this problem existed, which frosts me even more. Still open to question today!
The only thing these companies understand is never buying their machines again! Quality is sorry these days, too much indiscriminate cost cutting go on. So much for purchasing a "premium" laptop.
Had even worse good fortune with Samsung Rant mobile phones, with 3 of 6 new phones failing within 19 months! Foul.

I took what I remembrances was a common sense risk. I bought a REFURBISHED one. I figured it might have been one of the returned "lemons" which was now set.
Now make sure you don't miss this most important part: It came from WAREHOUSE CENTRAL.
When it here I plugged it in and it wouldn't even boot, greeting me with only a fatal error message!! An crack I took it to said "nothing in it recognized anything else in it"!!!
I can understand some flaw deep inside the works, but how can someone let a pc go out the entrance way without even PLUGGING IT IN???
However, I must highly compliment Amazon.com, for they fully refunded my purchase cost, immediately, before they even got the computer back!
i would say be very cautious, though, if the name WAREHOUSE CENTRAL appears ANYWHERE!

Proficient functionality; Good Materials
Whole, the computer is great. Windows 7 and very little crapware makes this laptop very easy to configure to your tastes. I gave this only four stars because of the shape quality. The case around the CD tray is rather flimsy, so I inadvertently open the CD tray when I lay it from the side. Additionally, I cleaned the keyboard with isopropyl alcohol and the trackpad had a white haze when the hooch evaporated. This is an indication of the plastic reacting with the chemicals in the alcohol. This is the first time I have seen this on the several laptops that I have owned, so this is an data of a lower-grade plastic used for the trackpad.

I will never, ever buy Sony again
Laptop was over $2000 when bought new. Came LLOOAADDEDD with junkware (e.g., inane demo software). Took hours to remove all of it. So far: 1) graphics show-card, battery, mouse key are allll broken just after warrenty expired. All components are Wonderful cheap. This laptop is the worst constructed, engineered piece of crap I've ever utilized and guess what, I paid premium price for it! Expect no more out of Sony.

I girlfriend this VAIO
I normally toughened DELL computer; have a Latitude D620 that is a great laptop and very dependable so I wasn't very convinced to mutate for a SONY. My father recommended, so I decide to take the risk.
I'm some kind of a demanding user, normally labour with many windows open, and use a lot of application like Visio, SQL, etc., so need a very power computer.
The SONY VAIO VGN-NW330F/B gives what be in the cards, I'm very happy with this laptop, and looks very nice. I'm happy with his 4GB of RAM and his 500GB of Hard Run, work great feel comfortable.
I really recommend it.

Astonished at the Customer Service
I didn't buy this laptop through Amazon, but I be like I need to complement Sony somewhere. I bought this laptop about six months ago and three days ago when I turned it on there was a unconventional red blotch on the screen. It hadn't been damaged. I called customer care with child to get a "it's out of warranty" response, but instead they told me a service technician would call me within three days and outline a visit within 10 business days. On the second day the service tech called and asked if he could earn by now for in home service. I'm in a big city so there's probably a lot of service techs here. The screen was replaced, not a cent out of my pilfer, and no less than one phone call. I'm totally amazed by this!!!
The laptop is not bad either. :) Quick boot up, precise screen, I like the Sony quality and that's why I chose it from other laptops. But the kicker is, had this happened with another proprietorship I probably would have ended up paying something for the repair or taking it and leaving it somewhere for a few days. I'm so satisfied I spend the extra money.

Dearest this VAIO Laptop
My last three laptops were HP, and this rhythm I wanted to explore other manufacturers. I liked the design and tech specification for this SONY laptop and unswerving to buy. I have had this for the last 6 months and love every bit of it. I use it primarily for study and research, and the best things I rapture about this laptop are:
1- That it doesn't heat up on your laps, a problem I have had with my previous laptops.
2- Runs hurriedly.
3- Very good at multitasking.
4- Additional SONY software are awesome.
I have had no issues with this laptop so far, but one id I would liked to see on this laptop is the ability to receive more than two media card, because I have a Fuji digital camera which uses xD media carte de visite which this laptop doesn't support. The delivery was prompt and as advertised.

A harmonious of garbage
I've been buying laptops since 1995, and I have yet to see a more bugged, bad piece of equipment. The touch pad left click button needs about 10 pounds of in operation to make it work, I've never seen anything like it. The computer constantly crashes, and since I have another laptop with the same Windows 7 operating system which never has crashed on me, I recall it's the Sony computer. DO NOT BUY THIS COMPUTER, I WISH I NEVER HAD!!!

Laptop slipshod after 5 months and Sony charged $200 to repair
The laptop is incredibly and works ably... while it lasts.
Unfortunately, mine had a catastrophic failure after moral five months. It suffered a complete harddrive failure without having been dropped or mistreated, so it was at most a poor quality product on Sony's part.
To add insult to injury, I took it to a Sony repair peach on to be fixed since it was obviously still under warranty, but was told it would set me back another $200 if I wanted my data recovered. I routinely back up my facts, but hadn't gotten around to it yet since it was only five months old. So Sony had effectively told me that I would have to pay an additional $200 on top of the $800 I had already paid legitimate months earlier to have my laptop returned to the same condition it was in before it failed due to their own poor attribute.
My advice: there are plenty of other laptops to choose from that treat their customers better and hand over better quality products that don't fail within months of purchase. I learned my chastisement and will never be buying another Sony Vaio again.

I inamorata it, almost a year later
I remember it's not sold as new anymore, but the VAIO has served me very well since last July and with only very minor problems that I have been able to solve. Sony sent me the Windows 7 upgrade quickly and as soon as I threw that on, it was absolutely cultivate. Really no complaints, things like the battery discharging in hibernate don't worry me at all - it's great at what it does and will still hold it's own compared to laptops at a similar price unit today.

Fully Prejudicial Laptop
I bought this laptop to change a 3 year-old Toshiba Satellite U-205. I did a lot of product research before settling on this one, and I must note that I strongly designed buying an apple but found its features lacking.
Great Features Include:
Very profitable processor(not the fastest for laptops, but not far off)
Excellent graphics card(doesn't get much safer in a laptop)
Blu-Ray Player!(full hd movies wherever you want to watch them without taking up massive amounts of perseveringly drive space)
16.4 inch screen and some nice built in speakers do Blu-Ray pictures justice.
HDMI out!(it could not be any easier to hook up to your HDTV, dual monitor fortify makes computing much more fun)
Great battery life(you can actually use it for a few hours before you demand to plug-in, seriously.)
Stylish design.(Mat-black top with shiny VAIO symbol, wonderful screen, keyboard, even the power button looks nice)
Good physique quality.(might not be an aluminum uni-body, but it's no piece of junk, very sturdy)
The price is convenient.
Downside:
HDMI out and a Blu-ray drive do not necessarily mean that you'll be able to use it as a blu-ray player for your big wall. Although the HDMI out enables very convenient use of your HDTV as a primary or second monitor, I've seasoned issues trying to play blu-ray on the big screen. I'm not sure if it's because of Windows, WinDVD software, or only the hardware not being powerful enough. This is the one and only let-down I've experienced with an otherwise great computer.

Never Ever A Sony Anymore
I bought a Sony VAIO VGN-FW280J/H 16.4-Inch Laptop (2.26 GHz Intel Heart 2 Duo P8400 Processor, 4 GB RAM, 7200 RPM 320 GB Hard Drive, BD-RW, Vista Bonus) Gray, in May 2009 for the good price of USD 999.99. I didn't open the box for about one month, because I have 2 other Laptops an Apple and a HP.
Then I worn this Sony for about 2 months as a desktop, but not that much, so I didn't move or bring this Sony on th go. Then for somehow it builds moisture inside the LCD, I imagine due to the hot weather, I contacted Sony Support, they asked me to send the unit to Sony Repair in San Diego which I did and they received the component on 10.05.2009. Yesterday on 10.20.2009 at 8 pm I got an email saying that the repair estimate is USD 699.99 additional tax, whaaaaaat?...I called right away asked them to send it back, this is balmy...
I just can not believe that this is a SONY, one of the biggest company in electronics/multimedia/movie application.
I will never ever buy a sony anymore...
Below is the email that I got from Sony Repair:

Lad problems, nice computer
Well, after a week using this computer, I have a few considerations for those wishing to get one:
Bad points
* Sift : Although very nice the 16" screens suffers from reflection, its a pain to get a good see position, bright environments makes it almost impossible
* Battery: The worst I ever had: Lasts less than 90 minutes with shining dimmed
* Keyboard: Really, really bad. the individual keys makes a lot of bedlam, and its somehow hard to press them, not as good as Macbooks
* Software: Every single software installed from Sony are kaput (Vaio update, crashes all the time)
* Temperature: The place you are supposed to rest your advantageously hand, next to the stickers is really hot (maybe HD is beneath it)
Good points:
* Detailed card is really nice
* Sound: Good sound speakers
* Display: Its a Vaio no need to go further, very nice, beautiful piece of hardware
* Silent: Really fully, really nice to use

Horrific Advice from Sony -- **LEMON**
I purchased this on 9/2/09 and received it from Amazon on 9/4/09. I was thrilled with everything about this laptop as it had nothing but what I was looking for. After dealing with and deleting the massive amount of bloatware Sony put on the thing I loaded up Microsoft Work Professional about a week later. The next day, the laptop inexplicably started typing on it's own -- I couldn't even log on to windows. I called Sony, worked for about an hour difficult various things before they determined my keyboard was faulty and it would require service. It took five natural life but I was impressed when the technican came to my office and fixed it right in front of me. Problem was, varying out the keyboard didn't solve the problem. The tech diagnosed the mother go aboard and ordered it in on the spot. It came and after watching him totally disassemble the thing on my escritoire about a week later it was determined the replacement board Sony sent was bad. By now, I had had my new laptop about three weeks, having against it for only about six days. I waited another couple of days for another board to arrive and a few more days beyond that for the tech to communicate to my office. He came, we had a nice chat while he did it all again and got it running. Here it is a week later now - and it is doing it again. I called Sony today and told them that I had been accommodating enough and just wanted a new unit that they could just swap out the hard drive on. They said no, that I have to send it in to their "employment" center -- it'll be another month. So, here I am out $1200 and no laptop. There was no talking to Sony. They apologize but do nothing to institute this right. I travel extensively and need a reliable machine to conduct proprietorship. I have had good luck with Sony in the past but never again will I use them. AVOID AVOID AVOID. I doubt very much they can get this resolved by the metre the 12 month warrantee is up. In this economy I cannot see why any company would want to treat a client in this fashion. I have such a lack of confidence in this machine and in Sony that I plan to sell this lemon as a moment as I get it back. I'm in the market for a new machine now -- and it won't be a Sony.

Prodigious laptop....but....
I a moment ago received this laptop 2 days ago. I've been using it as I've been setting it up as my main PC. It has a great figure. Feels and looks fantastic. I watched a blue-ray disc and it looked superb on the laptop's screen. Bluetooth is nice to have to be able to listen to music from the laptop on my bluetooth headset.
I've familiar it on battery power and it lasted over an hour and a half, and I had the setting at "balanced". The system said I had over 62% freestyle life remaining and I had been viewing video, pics, and wireless web usage.
The only attitude that I haven't adjusted to yet is the sound from the fan whenever it's plugged in. I have it set to "Performance" mode whenever it is plugged in, but the tone from the fan kind of is going to get some taking used to. It's not loud, but you can hear it when things are fixed. It's not much, but something I'll have to get used to.
The other thing, which is minor, are the stickers Sony put on the wrist wrests. I would have rather not had the stickers all over the the wrist wrests. But hey, that's ethical me being picky. It has nothing to do with the system or the performance.
Reason I gave it 4 stars: was because of the fan. Were it not for the fan noise, it would have been 5 stars. I'm steadfast in a month or so, I will be used to the fan and will change it to 5 stars.

Suave but Slow and Difficult to Use
I was looking for an ultraportable computer for inspection emails and light internet browsing while travelling. Weight, size and promote were my considerations. This Sony seemed to fill the bill; I tried it for a day; but returned it because it was so difficult to use. First of all, it is not "pocket sized" unless you are wearing comedian pants. The deal breaker for me were the tiny keyboard and tiny print, I had to squint undeniable and got a headache within half an hour of playing with it. There is a magnifying glass feature so parts of the colander can appear larger but to transition from one size to a larger size print entails a fleeting blurring which is very hard on the eyes. I also had to squint to type properly as the keyboard is somewhat tiny and there is a tendency to misstype even though my hands and fingers are about average in size for someone who is 180 pounds.
Frankly, it is a much shrunk laptop. Beautiful to schlep around but its small size entails problems that were not resolved. I'd make attractive it for midgets and elementary school kids but not for any grown up for any use. I ended up purchasing an Ipod Hold a candle to at a third of the price and weight of this Sony and am delighted with it as it creatively resolved the small keyboard and trifling print problem.

Pronounced travel laptop
I purchased this pad to use as a travel laptop for this purpose, it is great. The display is bright and very legible (after shifting the font DPI to 120 dpi). The keyboard is usable (given the size) and the built-in SD carte de visite slot comes in handy.
The main problem with this laptop is that it comes with Vista SP1. After updating the SP2, the scene is much better. I also got the Intel developer drivers from their website and used the "Have Disk" spring from to update. Now the graphics have reasonable responsiveness too.
I think I am going to get the extended battery-operated which essentially doubles the battery life.
Overall, having purchased this refurbished for 600, I am timely with it. I will most likely update to Windows 7 to get even better performance. By the way, the Z series ATOM supports hyper-threading which is almost 2x the perfomance like to a dual core.
I wish SONY/INTEL would release a graphics driver that took full drop of the dual stream capability of the GMA500 PowerVR graphics chipset.
For Linux, try the Linux JoliCloud Netbook distro [...].

premium is everything
looks like Sony is stressful to botch the netbook market like they did with the mp3 player. Too expensive for less performance, then you can get for 1/2 the expense. Sony is turning into the GMC of electronics. Go with ASUS, or ACER.
